My Life, Defined By Lists

turning over a new leaf...

I was reading over this blog and i realized that I've been cheating.

When I originally decided to start blogging, I promised myself that I would do it only in the form of lists. To me, the blurbs i've been putting before or after my lists have been breaking my rule. So from now on, only lists...no explanations or intros or anything added JUST LISTS.

Hopefully you'll be able to follow without the extra explanation. And by you I mean the one person who's posted a comment so far (thanks, by the way.)

So...tonight we turn over a new leaf.

I leave you, naturally, with a list.

What I did today:

1) Made Grandma breakfast. Scrambled eggs. Good thing I make them especially fluffy, because she fell asleep in them. Grandma had a rough night last night, it seems.
2) Biked to work. yaaay for mother earth! and not owning a car because you're dirt poor!
3) Worked at the movie store. A man in his mid-fifties came in and rented Grease. Interesting.
4) Blushed a shade of bright red and ducked behind the counter. This puzzled my fellow employees. It was an instinctive move as soon as I saw cute movie theatre concession boy (a.k.a. Jacob) walk into the store.
5) Eventually reappeared from behind the counter (still red-faced) and greeted cute MTCSB (Jacob), who dropped in to rent the Darjeeling Limited ( a personal favourite of mine, b.t.w.)
6) spoke a unique blend of babbles and mumbles to said attractive male individual.
7) Managed to pull myself together for long enough to scribble down my phone number and give it to Jacob. In between eager head nodding and uncontrollable hair flipping on my part and shy attempts at conversation on his.
8) Melted into a puddle of happiness.
9) Biked home
10) Sat and stared at telephone for rest of night. Oh, and watched Sleepless in Seattle (crap movie). naturally with the cordless phone sitting beside me...incase the phone should suddenly ring with the promise of a gentleman caller.

Goodnight, lovies <3

A list of my bestest friends

Tonight I went to the movies. By myself. I suppose that is a really, really strange thing for a person to do but the truth is, I love movies so much that i do it all the time. I usually try to seem nonchalant; I show up 20 mins early, buy my ticket, and then rush in to the theatre where I can settle down in a seat tucked into the back corner before I can be spotted. Today, I detoured to the concession stand because Grandma was feeling a little under the weather (a.k.a. hung over from bridge last night) and didn't feel up to cooking supper.

Wouldn't you know it...the guy working the concession stand was incredibly cute. Well...maybe not incredibly cute but he was flirting with me and if that isn't incredible than i don't know what to believe. I had to pretend I was at the movies with a friend, who was already in the theatre, so that he didn't get a whif of the fact that I am a depressed loner who lives with a binge drinking, borderline incontenant senior. I was grateful that he didn't ask about my mysterious friend, because impov is not my thing....i'm a bad liar.

Unfortunately, this means that from now on i am probably going to have to bring someone to the movies with me in the future. Concession boy, as it turns out, may be worth impressing. I have compiled a list of possible candidates to act as my potential excorts :

1) Grandma. Not a good idea as they do not have an open bar at the theatre, so she probably couldn't be enticed to go near it. Also, apparently her snoring makes it hard for others to hear
the film.

2) Someone at work. Several things wrong with that idea (yessss sublist!)
a) I go to the big cineplex uptown, where most of the snobbish people I work with at the video store wouldn't be caught dead. Most of the employees at the movie store I work at like small, independant, artsy flicks that would never get played at the theatre I go to.
b) Many of them are hipsters who rarely shower and are too stoned to function
c) Many of the rest of them are creepy middle-aged men that hit on me constantly
d) ick

3) The mosquito living on my wall. I've named him Paulo. I've agreed not to kill him and he, in return, has agreed not to give me West Nile Virus. Thoughtful Paulo.

4) My cousin. Blithering, blithering fool. I feel comfortable writing this, because I'm certain she will never read it. That is because I suspect she is quite illiterate.

5) One of my other friends. I feel bad calling them and interrupting their busy lives. It's not easy being imaginary.

By the way, concession stand boy's name is Jacob.

Goodnight,

Zeph

Zephanie's goals for this summer:

Summer is coming up. Here's a list of goals I have set for myself:

1) Get a tan. Last year I went back to school after summer vaca looking like the undead. If you could buy complexions in boxes like hairdye, my particular brand would be called "shockingly pasty pale." I am white...almost translucent, some say. Much of this, I assume, has to do with my WASPy genetics, but I have a feeling a lot of the reason I was so pale last september was because I hardly stepped food outside the entire summer. I can't remember why. I think his name may have rhymed with "cryin'." (you may not believe that i would stoop so low to write a country song called "brian, you left me cryin." if this is true, you regard me too highly. lower you expectations, friends. Briiiiiiiiiiiaaaannn....you left me.......CRRRYYYYIN')

2) Convince Grandma to Get a Haircut. If I have to, I will cut it myself. I need to get that woman to a hairdresser - the other day I overhead a homeless man telling her she looked like a slob. He may have even given her some money. She looks like a ragamuffin. I need to get her to the salon, and fast, but a rag heavily dosed in chloroform may be involved.

3) Make New Friends. Grandma's nice, but she falls asleep mid-conversation and farts at the dinner table. It's time for an upgrade. Perhaps someone my age?

4) Find new job. I work at a movie store. We also sell CD's ,computer games, and books, I should add. And Andy, the creepy guy who works afternoons, sells Oxycotton. It's a fun place to work...but I have a feeling there are greener pastures out there, somewhere. Maybe these pastures also pay more than minumum wage once you find them. Who knows.

5) Find new boyfriend. I cannot believe i've gone an entire year without being in a relationship. I need to move on. Brian, shmian, I say! He's gone (California) for good so i need to get myself back on the market! Was I ever on the market? I mean Brian and I had kind of been dating since preschool. Bah! I need new prospects. Unfortunately, most of the guys I work with are either hard-core online gaming basement dwellers, or...nope...they're all online gaming basement dwellers. Actually, they all game together. With the headsets and everything...you know...make teams and shoot each other online all night while chitchatting to each other using codenames and avatars. Sexy.

6) Blog more. This is just the beginning. Obviously, this is going to be the most intensely fun summer vacation yet, so stay tuned!

Until later, I love you ALL

Zeph
